KIT – definition
I know you wish I spelled that wrong, but I didn’t. We are going to talk about kits (or sets) today! I know you thought we are going to talk about kittens, right? Well, um, so did I!
First, let’s define what’s a kit and how is that different than a BOM based product.
The biggest difference between the two is that a KIT is a simple product whose components can be sold individually. And, you don’t charge a work operation for assembling it. That means that you won’t pay Karen for putting a needle, scissors, and a few threads in a nice box and calling it a kit!
On the other side, a BOM based product (BOM stands for Bill of Materials if you didn’t know) is something that you manufacture in your own facility. It includes components, sub-components and work operations, and everything goes into the estimated cost.
Creating a KIT in ERPAG
My advice is that you create components that go into the kit first. Just create regular products, purchased from a supplier or multiple suppliers. You can even include a BOM based product in a kit, but you cannot include a kit within a kit.
Click on the ‘add new button’ and choose ‘KIT’:
As you can see on the picture above, just define all the components of a kit, their quantity, and ERPAG will automatically calculate your estimated cost of a kit. Based on this figure, you will form your selling price.
Can I import a KIT from xls file?
I’m glad that you asked – of course you can!
In your ERPAG account, go to administration > import DATA > and check the box in front of KIT:
Copy/Paste the SKU and the description of the KIT, SKUs and descriptions of the components, and quantity of the COMPONENTS. After you included everything hit SAVE on the right side.
And BOOM – your KIT is successfully imported into ERPAG:
You just have to define your selling price in this window.
KIT and its components
Kit supports next product types as components:
- Regular products;
- BOM based products;
- Non-inventory items;
- Dropship products.
Which means that you can’t add next items as a part of the kit:
- Another kit;
- Variable product;
- Consumable product;
- Bill item;
The only report tied directly to a KIT in ERPAG is an estimated kit report, located under inventory module.
This report gives you the same information that you have in your individual KITs.

The difference is obvious – the estimated kit report consolidates all KITs under one window.
However, both windows give you the same information – how many kits can you build based on the components you have on hand. From our both examples it’s clearly visible that you can build 32 kits. Because you have 32 Metal Boxes on hand.
Selling a kit
To sell a kit, just create a Sales Order (by going to sales > sales orders), and select the KIT in the item section:
Upon saving, ERPAG will go through the component SKUs to check whether you have enough quantity or not. In our case, we have available quantity, which means that we can pack, ship, and invoice our order.
In case you have no quantity or partial quantity, you have to purchase the missing components from your supplier.
Can I buy/transfer/set quantity of a KIT?
Um, no, you can’t. Kit in ERPAG is just a virtual product that consists of components laying around on shelfs, scattered around your warehouse. Seriously, organize your warehouse, tidy it up, there’s nothing better to do in this pandemic times anyway!
If you want to purchase kit, or transfer it to another warehouse, or do a stock adjustment for it, you won’t be able to accomplish what you want. The list will just come up empty:
You can only purchase the individual items and then assemble the kit, once it’s on the sales order.
What KIT information will be printed out?
The sales order/invoice will just show the main KIT description and quantity:
While the packing list will show the individual components and their quantities:
What if I pack only some of the available KIT components?
Of course you can pack only some of the components within a KIT. Whether you just have partial quantity of components, or you just don’t feel like packing everything you have for this particular person.
However, if you decide to split the unpacked quantity to a new sales order, only the components will be split to a new sales order. Because you cannot pack 4.5 of a kit on one sales order, and 1.5 of a kit on another one.
Selling a KIT through POS
Selling a KIT through POS (Point Of Sale) is also possible! Just select the desired kit from the menu, alter the quantity if needed, and click on TOTAL to print out the receipt:
The printed receipt will show just the KIT description:
And, since even POS transactions go to Sales Order list in ERPAG, you can view it in that window as well:
KIT and serial/lot number tracking
You can’t track the KIT by serial or lot number, but you can track the components.
Which means, that upon packing a Sales Order that contains a KIT, you will have to select the serial/lot number from the drop-down menu. The same rule applies to packing a kit through the mobile application.
Since you can’t select serial or lot number through POS, you will have to ‘proceed as sales order’, and then pack the POS order by selecting the corresponding tracking numbers.
