If you are a novice in using software to help you with better tracking your inventory and production,
and if you have ever wondered what kind of production types there are, this manual will help you to differentiate them!

It is normal that based on your workflow you have different steps in the production, and that sometimes the production is not continuous.

Intermittent production type, are all types of production which includes irregular start and stop time.

Production works based on several factors

  • Flexible production process
  • Made to order production- orders assembled per customers orders
  • Equipment aka machines used in the production
  • Different and amendable volume of production
  • Wide variety of products that are produced
  • Unbalanced production
  • Transportation between different warehouses/facilities

There are four main types of production:

  1. Job production
  2. Batch production
  3. Project production
  4. Continuous production

Job production

Involves special order type of production.

It is a production process which requires workers or employees producing customized order for a specific customer, or for a small volume batch. Without repetition involved.

Benefits of the Job production :

  • High quality work
  • High level of customization
  • Increased customer retention rate

Batch production

Is type of production process where the products are manufactured in series, within a specific time frame.
A batch of manufactured products can go through a multiple steps in a large or semi large production to make a final required product.

This type of production will allow for the products to be high or small volume produced with minimum changes to the product.
Every batch will go through specific stage of the production and it will help with better tracking your production.

Benefits of the batch production are :

  • Good for quality control
  • Scrap reducing
  • Efficient usage of machines/equipment

Project production

Is the type where one group of the items is manufactured at a time, within a specific time frame.

It includes product development, construction, work order systems, job shops.

Benefits of a project production are:

  • Customer satisfaction
  • Organized production
  • Motivated workers

Continuous production

Involves ongoing processing and flow production method.
In which the raw materials are consumed in the manufacturing process on a constant footing.

Benefits of a continuous production are :

  • High volume of production
  • Efficient and cost effective production
  • Simplified gauging
